Past Winners at the Colonial Country Club

A golf event has been held at the Colonial Country Club since 1946. The first ever winner of the inaugral USPGA tour event was Ben Hogan who was one of the best players in the game. Hogan then went on to win the Colonial Invitational a further 5 times.

Further legends of the game like Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Ben Crenshaw, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Waston have all lifted the Colonial Invitational trophy and had their name enscribed on the club house board. Surprisngly one name missing of the board is Tiger Woods, who some people say is the greatest ever player to grace the fairways.

The winner for 2009 was American Steve Stricker, who finally took home the trophy after a play-off with Steve Marino.

Over the years at the Colonial Country Club their has been some indifferent scores which have enabled golfers to take home the winners cheque and colonial invitational trophy.

The lowest ever winning score after 72 holes has been 261, both in 2003 and 2005 American Kenny Penny has played some brilliant golf. In 2003 he won by 7 clear shots and in 2005 8 clear shots.

The largest number of shots after 72 holes for a golfer to walk away a winner was in 1959 when Ben Hogan shot 285 a long side Fred Hawkins. Hogan then proceeded to beat Hawkins in a play off.

As you can see over the years their has been a difference in 25 shots between winners, which in any tournament is massive.
